Veterinary supply company chooses Harrisburg for new site
Building codes delay MWI Veterinary Supply northeast distribution center


Harrisburg, Pa. (April, 2004) - Looking for a new northeastern shipping point, MWI Veterinary Supply Company (MWI), which distributes animal pharmaceuticals, decided on Harrisburg’s central location late last year. The new 24,000 square foot site opened in Harrisburg only a few months later after a delay caused by new building codes.

Bryan Mooney, Transportation and Logistics Manager, and Steve Nelson, Director of
Operations, represented MWI and started touring the Harrisburg real estate market in
September 2003 with real estate agent Bill Gladstone, CCIM, SIOR of NAI/Commercial-Industrial Realty Company (NAI CIR). The team decided on a Harrisburg warehouse owned by First Industrial Realty Trust.

The Pennsylvania statewide building codes, newly implemented at the time, increased the length of time before settlement while architects and construction companies were brought in to help gain the required variances. As a result, MWI missed its deadline by nearly two months and could not use the facility until May.
